HONORED TO BE SUBMITTED FOR THE GRAMMYS 2027 IN THE BEST CONTEMPORARY CLASSICAL COMPOSITION CATEGORY "could be the score for a quantum mechanics mystery” - Gramophone (UK) https://www.gramophone.co.uk/review/resonant-worlds Unraveling the Linear  (2023) for wind quintet and electronic sound music by Svjetlana Bukvich from the album RESONANT WORLDS (Albany Records, 2025) by SYLVAN WINDS: Isabel Lepanto Gleicher - Flute, Kathy Halvorson - Oboe, Nuno Antunes - Clarinet, Gina Cuffari - Bassoon, Zohar Schondorf - Horn Louis Brown - Mixing and Mastering Svjetlana Bukvich - Arturia MicroFreak synthesizer & sound design Video by MixUpNYC featuring excerpts from The Hardest Trip II @MathsTown   Unraveling the Linear explores time, perception, and the illusion of continuity. Built on an expanded sonata form with theme and variations, it weaves acoustic and electroacoustic textures into a sound world where moments seem to fold, stretch, and refract. The work reflects on how rapidly evolving technologies disrupt familiar narratives — inviting listeners to consider what might lie beyond linear frameworks of thought and experience.   Unraveling the Linear was premiered in February 2023 at the Sylvan Winds “Plugged-in” concert, part of the 13th annual Composers Now Festival at the National Opera Center in NYC. Commissioned by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), and recorded with support from the 2025 Chamber Music America Artistic Projects grant, the piece received The American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers (ASCAP) Foundation Bart Howard Fund Award at its premiere. From the composer: I’m truly grateful to the Sylvan Winds for the opportunity to record this work — and for welcoming me so fully into the process. Being invited as the sixth member of the ensemble for the premiere allowed me to experience the piece from within, onstage. That perspective profoundly shaped my approach to preparing the electronic components for the recording. http://www.svjetlanamusic.com © 2026 CBCO Music [ASCAP] All rights reserved
Svjetlana Bukvich - "Uraveling the Linear" feat. Sylvan Winds
From the composer: In this piece I collaborated with poet Tim Norris (Northeastern University) whose writings inspire me. This poem describes the loss of a relationship, the moment when "sand starts to fall away under one's feet" and when existential questions arise. Initially conceived as an installation, the commission for the work came from The Revolving Museum in Boston, Massachusetts. The piece received performances at the Provincetown Playhouse in NYC by pianist and thereminist Rob Schwimmer, at the Tenri Cultural Institute and Spectrum in NYC by pianist Marija Ilić, and at the Sarajevo 'Vijećnica' City Town Hall with flutist/bass flutist Hanan Hadžajlić. Walking now across an unmeasurable distance I stumble – so much triumphant measures To construct identity About the unimpartable Walking towards the darkness Between earth and creation Between words and words Walking through dark night Walking on in blank anticipation Finally, I am a mouth staggered in darkness A journey – a detour – a voiceless voice In boundless time Before the sea takes its embrace I wonder Did we exist on frailty and disarray? So many communications – so little communication I thought I heard your voice – or was it mine? The voice calls me and out comes my voice But what do I know of my utterances When does my voice become his speech? And who was this woman Who walked the stairs – the paths and the ways with me? Upon infinite water he is writing the mother sea Mytilene Your ancient and first embrace He is after always, always connected to mother sea and we – and you He has thought of a book of stones Who will escort him there His message comes back sometimes and conversation with whom As always, with whom my anonymous friend With whom? Few other artists are able to bridge such a seemingly ridiculous number of styles... Fans of acts as diverse as Radiohead, Peter Gabriel-era Genesis, exploding pianist Kathleen Supove and postminimalist composers like David Lang will love this stuff.” New York Music Daily, New York https://newyorkmusicdaily.wordpress.com/2020/05/14/svel "Completely unique... a beginning of a new aesthetic paradigm."  Sonograma, Barcelona http://sonograma.org/suplement-de-discos/extension "'Extension' has become an exciting and different album... it is Bukvich's compositions and electronic games that fascinate most... the record has really become an innovation for my ears. Beautiful!” salt-peanuts*, Oslo https://salt-peanuts.eu/record/svjetlana-bukvich "elements of the experimental style of The BBC's Radiophonic Workshop's output in the '70s, musical theatre as well as opera mixing together everything from American minimalism, art and progressive rock, German classicism, Italian polyphony, Russian romanticism, jazz, and ethnic idioms… It's this melting pot of styles that makes this album far greater than the sum of its parts." Review Graveyard, UK http://www.reviewgraveyard.com/00_revs/r2020/music/20-03-27_bukvich-extension.html “stunning opera with electronic synth eruptions... a unique 'no genre' appeal… vague impressions of Björk… enrapturing bass lines… gorgeous violin parts… mysterious movements, elevated by sparkling harp” Dutch Progressive Rock Page, The Netherlands https://www.dprp.net/reviews/2020-113 "ingenuity... a true musical Epicurean, but whose sound of music is not only prolonged in the sensualist realm but also arouses in us a feeling of hope that is quite palpable.” World Music Report, Toronto https://worldmusicreport.com/reviews/cds/svjetlana-bukvich-extension http://www.svjetlanamusic.com © CBCO Music [ASCAP] All rights reserved

Out on Navona Records March 27, 2020 "Navona Records presents European/American composer Svjetlana Bukvich’s latest fictocritical masterpiece: EXTENSION, a sweepingly cinematic collection of works that are entirely unique but at once familiar. Album EVOLUTION, Big Round Records [PARMA Recordings] 2014 Music composed, arranged and produced by Svjetlana Bukvich Recorded by Paul Geluso Mixed by David Frost and Tom Lazarus From the composer: “Before and After the Tekke“ is inspired by Meša Selimović's book 'Death and the Dervish', my visit to an 18th century tekke (dervish monastery) at the karstic Buna river spring in Herzegovina, the music idioms of the region, and the sounds of New York City. The piece features tuning of my design woven with tempered intonation in a suite of imaginary dances informed by deconstructivism. It is dreamed from sounds that I have once known but since forgotten.” Lyrics: “Without you, the foreign, distant lands hurt more and the empty roads and the strange dreams that I have even when I am awake that I can’t chase away without you.” From the book 'Death and the Dervish' by Meša Selimović Cornelius Dufallo, violin Tony Levin, electric bass Svjetlana Bukvich, drum tracks, SFX , minimoog synthesizer, voice, altered tuning design http://www.svjetlanamusic.com © CBCO Music [ASCAP] All rights reserved

It reveals images of nature, the magnificence of the universe, our relationship to the earth and each other. "Traces" is the recipient of the New Music USA, 2016 Live Music for Dance grant and The O’Donnell-Green Music and Dance Foundation, Inc. grant. Dodge Foundation. From the composer: "My music is the conversation I bring to the table. "Traces" absorbs much of my life's story as an artist and human being. I grew up in a place, Sarajevo (Yugoslavia), which defeated fascism. That moment in history keeps resurfacing in my mind as I face the troubling signs in today's societies, across the globe.
